Ybbs

A favorite river in Austria, the Ybbs winds through an idyllic countryside and is considered some of the best fly-fishing available by many. The over 50km of fly-fishing water is divided into several sections, each with a daily limit of rods, which ensures you exclusive access and a quiet time on the water. While one section of the Ybbs is managed by the Austrian Fishing Association, the others are available from Franz Rosenberger, a passionate fly-fisherman and baker in the village of Opponitz. Franz can arrange guiding in German or English, and will provide you advice on what flies to use depending on the season. Be sure to stop by the bakery for a ham and cheese semmel before departing for the river. Hotel Fahrnberger and Gasthof zum Kirchenwirt are both good lodging options. Brown trout, rainbow trout, grayling.
